COMPOSITION
COMPOSITION
A large part of the repertoire that Francisco Javier Jáuregui plays with other musicians has been arranged or composed by him. He is particularly interested in making new pieces based on folk melodies from different parts of the world. Below is a video performance with Gudrún Ólafsdóttir of Francisco Javier's composition Nani, nani. The song is composed around an old Sephardic melody collected in Northern Africa which Francisco Javier arranged for voice and guitar. It was premiered in 2009 at the Glinka Hall of the Philharmonic Society of Saint Petersburg as part of the Tardes de España Festival.
Francisco Javier has also written a number of original compositions for other performers such as Sonor Ensemble, a group made up mainly of string players from the National Orchestra of Spain, pianist Sebastián Mariné and conductor Luis Aguirre. Below is a video of the premiere of The Religion of Love, a piece for voice, piano and string quintet to a text by the Sufi mystic poet and philosopher Ibn Arabi (1165-1240) born in Murcia (Al Andalus). The piece is a call for peace and understanding among people of all creeds. The words say:
"I profess the religion of love and I go wherever it strides. Love is my creed and my faith".
